A brief message from our owner...

This whole endeavor has been the greatest accident of my life, and I thank God every day for leading me down this rabbit trail.  It's an adventure that began as a way to find a meaningful career after a successful run in corporate America.  An adventure that has become more.  So.  Much.  More.

This adventure has become about the people.  The brave woman who started the bakery I now own.  The loyal employees who show up to our crazy every day.  The customers who have become friends.  The entrepreneurs with whom I share my space.  The fellow down-towners who share a desire to keep our historic space vibrant.  Small business is more.  So.  Much.  More.

When you walk in our space, you're walking into a building built in the 1910s.  I've come to love its stories and its intricacies.  Exactly how many wheel-barrow buckets of concrete it took to build this masterpiece, we will never know.  But we know it spent much of its life as a furniture store.  And when my husband and I had the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to own it, we just couldn't dream of floor-to-ceiling walls.  So here we are with a space where you can watch creators create while you browse and dream of your family gathering over meals in your own homes.

This building is connected to the one next door.  We knew that when we bought it, but we never dreamt we would have the opportunity to breathe life into that space, too.  Today these two old connected buildings house a theater company, a home decor store, a studio space for three photographers and our mangled mess of kitchenwares and baked goods.

You see, people gather.  Friends celebrate.  Entrepreneurs congregate.  Historians share.  Artists create.  Families eat.  ​

We at the Mercantile and Cakery are honored to be wherever you gather.
